🦷 Quick infection control question for my dental friends…
If you accidentally stick yourself with a used needle tomorrow, does everyone in your office know exactly what happens next?
Not just “wash your hands and tell the doctor.”
There should already be a post-exposure process in place — including immediately caring for the exposure site, reporting and documenting the incident, identifying the source patient when appropriate, and getting the exposed employee a confidential medical evaluation and follow-up.
And the middle of a needlestick injury is definitely not when you want the team trying to figure out what the protocol is. 😬
This is one of the things I really want dental teams to understand beyond just memorizing rules. Infection control makes a lot more sense when we talk about what these requirements actually look like during a normal day in a dental office.
