SRQ friends and family, we decided to evacuate. It took us approximately 12 hours to get to Panama City Beach. We did stop for food and gas in Ocala. Gas stations farther inland were easier to get in and out than the ones by the highway.

The traffic was bad. They opened the left shoulder for travel. It moved quicker than the other other lanes. It is a tight fit though if you are not comfortable with small lanes. Tensions are high so keep a peaceful mind (even if people act like jerks). Once we got to I-10 it was smooth sailing. The roads were clear from Helene debris, even though you could see fallen trees on the side.

We wish we left sooner. Going south to Miami might be better if you have somewhere to stay there.

Stay safe. Don’t let fear cloud your judgement or stir your emotions. It is stressful for everyone, so treat those with you with love and try to find a way to joke around. Run from water. Hide from wind. May God bless you all.
