There’s been a lot of talk about Florida’s proposed homestead tax changes, so here’s the simple version:

✅ Nothing has changed yet. The proposal still needs voter approval.

🏡 Currently, homeowners with a homestead exemption can reduce the taxable value of their primary residence by up to $50,000.

📈 If approved, the exemption could increase to $150,000 and then more.

⚠️ However, property taxes would not disappear completely, and school taxes would still apply.

A buyer would need to establish Florida residency and homesteaded primary residence by December 31, 2026 to qualify for the larger exemption when it begins in 2027.
