Inflation came in hotter than expected.
The September CPI report, released today, shows prices up 3.7% from a year ago, up from 3.4% in August. Economists expected 3.6%.
Housing costs, the "shelter" category, rose 0.4% in September, the fastest monthly pace in five months.
Your buyers will hear "inflation" on the news tonight. Be the one who explains it:
1. Keep it simple: this report is one of the last big inflation readings the Fed sees before it meets Oct. 27–28.
2. Don't predict rates. Talk about what your buyer can control: budget, payment and timing.
3. Have their lender re-run the numbers so they know where they stand today.
Clients don't need you to know the future. They need you to keep them calm and informed.
Save this for your next buyer call.
