Thinking about making the move to Sarasota?

Before you start scrolling through homes, here are 5 things I’d want you to know:

1. Not all of Sarasota is the same.
Downtown, the barrier islands, Palmer Ranch, Lakewood Ranch, and the communities east of I-75 all offer completely different lifestyles. Where you live can be just as important as the home you choose.

2. Flood zones matter.
Being close to the water is one of Sarasota’s biggest perks—but it also means you should understand flood zones, insurance, elevation, and potential costs before you buy.

3. Sarasota has seasons.
Winter brings beautiful weather and plenty of activity. Summer is hotter, more humid, and quieter. If you’re moving from out of state, experiencing Sarasota during different times of the year can give you a much better idea of what everyday life is really like.

4. Growth is happening.
Sarasota and the surrounding areas continue to grow, which means new restaurants, businesses, communities, and infrastructure—but also more traffic and construction in certain areas. Knowing what’s coming can be just as important as knowing what’s already there.

5. Don’t just buy the house—buy the location.
Think beyond the kitchen and the pool. Consider your commute, access to the beaches, restaurants, schools, insurance, future development, and what the neighborhood could look like years from now.

The biggest piece of advice I can give?

Don’t rush into buying just because you found a house you love. Understand the area first.
