LUXURY LIVING UNDERWATER
A Dubai-based developer has filed with the City of Sarasota for what may be one of the region’s most unconventional luxury housing proposals yet: Poseidon’s Retreat, an eight-unit underwater condominium project planned for Sarasota Bay.

The proposal calls for eight luxury residences inside a transparent domed structure below the bay near downtown Sarasota. Plans describe terraced layouts, expansive glass walls, private observation lounges, climate-controlled marine gardens, and systems designed to support life below the surface.

Blue Meridian Development Group, which says it specializes in water-adjacent and water-immersive luxury housing, calls this its first U.S. attempt at fully submerged residential construction. The application is now under review by the city’s Development Review Committee. In addition to site and engineering approval, the developer is seeking a new underwater zoning designation not currently recognized in Sarasota code.

Florida ranked second nationwide for incoming migration, just behind Texas, and 10 of the top 20 growth cities are in Florida. The U-Haul Growth Index analyzes more than 2.5 million one-way rental transactions.
