Open House Sunday from 1-4 PM
After two long years and many commuting miles Marco Polo has finished a renovation/restoration project in Albany at 692 Madison Ave, across from the top of Washington Park. Arriving at a 120 year old former mansion that had seen much better days the project kicked off with a restoration of the top floor apartment, and moved down through the building refurbishing the common areas before tackling the two apartments on the second floor. After that it was on to the exterior where the front porch was rebuilt including a rebuild on the floor and the ceiling as well as a rebuild on the 11 fluted columns that hold up the porch. I can tell you it was not easy rebuilding fluted columns that were partially rotted out and falling apart. Had to channel my dad to get that squared away.
The team, comprised of myself, Craig Ferguson, Lars Anderson and Alfonso Relano, worked assiduously to recraft the elements of the grand old lady that she once was. If we found features that had been buried under previous renovations we brought them back to life including coffered ceilings, plaster crown mouldings, fireplaces and wainscotting. The first floor apartment, a two bedroom, two bath gem is an exquisite reproduction of the period in a renewed spatial arrangement, turning the former servants kitchen into an extra bed/bath space.
I'm very proud of the work we've done and so I'm holding an open house this Sunday from 1-4. If you'd like to see work of which the building inspector in Albany said "Nobody does work like this around here any more!" then Please PM me to reserve your time. Light and not so light refreshments will be served!
Where: 692 Madison Ave, Albany from 1-4 PM Sunday (Look for the Marco Polo signs on the porch)
