Fed Minutes Suggest Rate Hikes Over
Rate Cuts on Horizon

Minutes from last month’s Federal Reserve Board meetings suggest that the Central Bank is finished with rate hikes and will at some point begin to cut rates.

The Wall Street Journal reports that nearly all Fed officials anticipated policy rates would eventually be lowered before the end of this year. The minutes of the Dec. 12-13 meeting, released Wednesday, underscored heightened uncertainty over how the Fed plans to navigate the next interval of monetary policy after the most rapid increase in interest rates in four decades.

Rep. Maloney Says SALT Cap Reform is ‘On the One-Yard Line’

At a press conference earlier today, U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-18) expressed confidence that the reform of the unpopular SALT Cap is at hand.

There have been reports that Senate Democrats are at odds over the particulars of how to reform the SALT Cap, which is to be part of President Biden’s “Build Back Better” social spending package. The House passed the $1.75-trillion spending plan in November that includes a provision to raise the $10,000 cap on state and local tax deductions to $80,000 through 2030.
