To coincide with ongoing redevelopment of the former Motorola Solutions campus, the Village of Schaumburg will be constructing a new 4-lane public roadway that will provide greater access and allow for efficient traffic flow. Improvements will include landscaped medians, streetlights, sidewalk and a bike path. This week, contractors closed the roadway on the Motorola campus that connects Algonquin Road to Meacham Road to begin work on the project. No through traffic will be allowed during the construction of the new public roadway. The road closure is expected to be in place through November.

Access to the Motorola Tower (1303 E Algonquin) and Zurich building (1299 Zurich Way) will only be provided from Meacham Road. Access to the Motorola IT (1299 E Algonquin) building on the west side of campus will only be provided from Algonquin Road at Communications Drive. For questions, please dial 311 in the village.

Widely celebrated across the country, St. Patrick's Day is one of the deadliest holidays due to the number of drunk drivers on the road. This holiday weekend, the Schaumburg Police Department will work around the clock to keep drivers and passengers safe by searching for alcohol and drug-impaired drivers and monitoring seat belt usage during the St. Patrick's Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

If you're planning on going out to celebrate:
• Designate a sober driver ahead of time, and give that person your car keys.
• If you don’t have a designated driver, call a cab or use ride-sharing.
• Buckle up – it’s your best defense in a crash.

By following these simple steps, you can help ensure that everyone arrives home safely. For more information on the campaign and additional safety tips, visit the village's website at bit.ly/2pdysK1.

What's New at the Corner Of...
Heritage Park, corner of Schaumburg and Roselle roads.

The northwest corner of Roselle and Schaumburg roads will soon be home to Heritage Park--an open area designed to highlight and celebrate one of the most historic crossroads in Schaumburg. Intended to complement Town Square and the new Pleasant Square residential development, Heritage Park will feature a walkable area containing a pair of mural walls that will feature images from Schaumburg's rich history. The mural walls are estimated to be approximately 8 feet tall by 16.5 feet long designed in a curved fashion and will include architectural characteristics that are consistent with the adjacent Town Square shopping area. The estimated completion date for this project is summer 2017.

Village of Schaumburg, Illinois Government

60th Anniversary Fun Fact
Schaumburg's tremendous growth, which had started in the 1960s, continued in the next decade. By 1970, the village's population was 18,730. That same year, Interstate 290 joined the Northwest Tollway as a major roadway serving the community and this additional link to Chicago was further enticement for developers seeking fertile business ground. Village of Schaumburg, Illinois Government

60th Anniversary Fun Fact
Since 2004, “Awaking Muse,” has been at home on the grounds of the Atcher Municipal Center. Comprised of Indiana limestone, the 40-foot Greek goddess created by Lawler-White Sculpture Studios has a 6-foot tall head, with a knee, leg and hand poking through the earth, as if just arising from a deep sleep. It is said that she whispers inspiration to any who sit in her hand.
