Not all cracks are created equal. When it comes to block foundations, horizontal cracking, stair-step cracks, or bowing walls can be signs of structural movement — not just normal settling.

Today’s Inspection Findings

Evidence of prior fire damage was observed to wood components within the structure. The affected areas exhibited visible charring and heat-related deterioration. Fire exposure can significantly reduce the structural integrity of wood members, even when damage appears superficial.

Attic temperatures are getting way too high already this season. Excessive heat buildup can lead to shingle damage, higher energy bills, and moisture issues. Proper ventilation and insulation make a big difference—worth checking before summer really hits.

Why does Enos Home Inspections recommend a septic inspection.

When evaluating a property, it is important to understand the differences between limited testing and a comprehensive septic inspection.

1. A camera inspection only shows the pipe — not the system

A camera inspection focuses on the lateral line and does not evaluate the tank condition or the drain field. It cannot determine if a tank is undersized, cracked, failing, or overdue for pumping, nor will it reveal drain field saturation. Consequently, a "passed" camera inspection often leaves 80% of the system unexamined.

2. A dye test is extremely limited

A dye test only confirms if wastewater appears on the surface at that specific moment. It does not simulate real household use and can pass even if a system is on the verge of failure. It is a brief snapshot rather than a thorough stress test.

3. A septic inspection evaluates the entire system

A professional septic inspection provides a complete evaluation, typically including:

- Tank access and condition
- Sludge and scum level measurement
- Inspection of baffles, tees, and lids
- Pumping (often required for a full inspection)
- The distribution box
- Drain field performance and signs of wear

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to schedule an inspection.
