Instead of a Friday Farm Spotlight this week, I thought it would be nice to showcase some of my favorite classes going on at the LQHA - Louisiana Quarter Horse Association Sugar Bowl Extravaganza going on this weekend in West Monroe, Louisiana since I’m a member of the LQHA board of directors. Two of my favorite classes are halter and showmanship. Both are in-hand classes but judged completely differently. Halter is a conformation class where the horses are judged on how they are built and overall presentation. The definition of showmanship is the art of presenting a horse in the most favorable and spectacular light to demonstrate skill, control, and poise. Showmanship is judged on how well the exhibitor shows the horse as they navigate as a team through a pattern. Good luck to all my friends showing in West Monroe this weekend!
