24 miles. Just under 11 hours. South Rim to North Rim.
One of the most challenging — and unforgettable — experiences of my life. This was no solo feat. The friendships forged in training and during the hike itself were a gift I didn’t expect but will always treasure. We pushed, encouraged, and carried each other through the grind.
Starting in the early morning darkness on the South Rim, descending into the vast silence of the canyon, and climbing out to the cool air of the North Rim — it was a journey through heat, exhaustion, and wonder. The scale of it all is hard to describe. Every turn reveals something new — and the majesty of God’s creation is everywhere you look.
But let me be clear: this is no casual hike. The last 5 miles up to the North Rim were brutal. Steep, exposed, and seemingly endless. When your legs are shot and your energy is low, the only thing that keeps you going is grit. This place demands respect.
If you’re thinking of hiking Rim to Rim — prepare. Train hard. Know the route. Respect the heat and the terrain.
It’s beautiful, yes — but it can be dangerous if you’re not ready.
I’m grateful for the strength to finish, grateful for safety, and in awe of the Creator who carved this masterpiece into the earth.
A special shoutout to Josh, who quite literally helped me power through the last 4 miles when I thought I had nothing left in the tank. I wouldn’t have finished the same way — or maybe at all — without him.
And none of this would’ve happened without the training expertise and encouragement from Dr Brian Hester and Desiree Hester with The Wellness Progression. Your guidance and belief in us made this possible.
