Saying goodbye to my lifelong friend, Steve Tenney.
Whew....I just learned Steve passed away this morning after a tremendous battle with cancer. My heart goes out to his children, Daniel and Leah, and their spouses and children, and to so many people who knew and loved Steve.
I went to kindergarten with Steve, played together on the basketball team, and despite my invitation to join me on hitchhiking across the USA (back in the day), he stayed in our hometown of Richland Center, so he would be with the love of his life, Martha. A very wise decision and not a choice at all.
I pray that Steve is finally together with Martha and the love of family and friends will help ease the loss that Daniel and Leah feel tonight and for days, weeks, and months to come.
I recall hearing this quote (just 6 words) shortly after my father passed away, and it is so true:
"The perpetual presence of the absense."
I know we all loved Steve in our own ways and over the years, so I hope each of us will keep his smile and peaceful nature alive within us every day.
Rest in peace, my friend aka "Starry Eyes".
