If it’s over $1,000 be careful who you hire…And if you’re handy be careful about picking up side jobs (this $1k limit also applies to several line items that that add up to $1000 or more) 

A “handyman” can do minor repair work without a contractor’s license, but this handyman exception is for minimal work of less than $1,000.
