Farewell Colonel – Retired SPD horse, Colonel, peacefully passed away December 30, 2020. Colonel was a registered American Quarter Horse born April 3, 1993. At just 4 years old, he began his career with Scottsdale Police in 1997. Sgt. Tom Hill #181 (retired) had the honor of patrolling with Colonel for 10 years until Colonel’s retirement in 2007.

Colonel had participated in national and local mounted schools, patrolled the 2001 World Series, 2002 and 2005 Calgary Stampede events and parade, 2004 Presidential debate, numerous football bowl games, the 2008 Super Bowl, WMPO, and NYE block parties. Colonel was a reliable and determined police horse with great character.

After Colonel’s retirement, he still enjoyed serving his community and made an appearance as part of the Hashknife Pony Express delivering mail from Holbrook to Scottsdale to kick off the Parada del Sol parade. Colonel spent his final years grazing around his ranch enjoying the retired life.

Rest in Peace Colonel and thank you for your service. You will always hold a place in our hearts and will surely be missed.

The Old Adobe Mission was built by hand by the Mexicans who first settled in Scottsdale in the late 1910s. Completed in 1933, today it stands as a historic monument, as one of only three remaining adobe structures in Old Town Scottsdale. 😮

We were asked to stay home to help slow the spread of COVID-19, but home isn't a safe place for everyone. More than ever before, victims are trapped at home with their abusers.
If you are being abused or if you suspect that a friend or loved one is being abused, there is help. In an emergency, call 9-1-1. For resources, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233
