Over the last decade, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best athletes in the world.
Olympians, professional soccer players, rugby players, cricketers, track and field athletes, swimmers, and athletes from sports most people would never associate with a swimming pool.
What continues to fascinate me is that regardless of the sport, the level, or the accolades, the fundamentals never change. Great athletes are curious. They are willing to be uncomfortable. They are constantly searching for ways to improve.
Sometimes my role is helping an athlete move faster through the water. Sometimes it’s assisting with rehabilitation, recovery, or return to play. Other times it’s simply providing an environment where they can switch off from the noise, enjoy the process, and reconnect with movement.
One of the things I enjoy most is seeing athletes experience the pool for the first time as a training tool rather than a sport. The water has a unique way of challenging you while simultaneously forcing you to slow down, breathe, and be present.
Lately I’ve had the opportunity to work with an Arizona Cardinals player, and what stands out isn’t his athletic ability. It’s his attitude. His enthusiasm, positivity, and willingness to learn are infectious. Every session reminds me why I love doing this.
After all these years, the medals, records, and accomplishments are great. But helping athletes discover new ways to perform, recover, and grow is still one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.
