Yet another positive sign for our housing market! Single family permits for the Phoenix metro area hit a 7 year high in March with just under 1400 issued, followed by over 1500 in April. These national numbers show that new construction is not just improving in AZ, but nationally.

This is great news! I can say first hand from experience, is that demand in Phoenix has increased significantly since this time last year. One point mentioned in this article that I found interesting, is that this is the first year since the recession that single family new home construction growth is expected to exceed multi-family/apartments. Could this be a signal that the market is starting to shift back to being favorable towards homeownership vs renting?

Existing homes sales this year are expected to hit levels not seen since just after the peak, in 2006, driven by strong job growth, low interest rates and a gradual loosening of lending standards, according to the National Association of Realtors.
