Futuro homes in New Jersey sounds like something straight out of a 1960s science-fiction movie, but these strange-looking UFO structures were actually built as real-life houses! 🛸

Called Futuro Houses, they were designed in 1968 by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen as futuristic, prefabricated homes made from fiberglass. The idea was that they could be transported and set up almost anywhere.

Believe it or not, New Jersey once had several of them.

One of the most famous sat along the Cohansey River in Greenwich, NJ, where it became a favorite roadside curiosity. But in 2023, the Greenwich Futuro was sold and moved to Ohio.

The good news is that it wasn't simply lost. The new owner is preserving the original shell and plans to use it as a mold to create new Futuro Houses.

That leaves one known Futuro House remaining in New Jersey, located at Mill Creek Park in Willingboro.

The inside is currently boarded up while plans for restoration are being worked out, but the unusual space-age shell is still there.

And yes — these really were built as homes, and people actually lived in them.

🏡 Ocean County Market Update — August 2026

The Ocean County market is showing a few changes worth watching.

Inventory edged down to 3.44 months, while homes are taking a little longer to sell, with median days on market increasing to 30 days. The median sold price also dipped to $499,950.

For buyers and sellers trying to coordinate a move, these shifts can make timing and strategy especially important.

🦁 The MGM Lion and Gillette, New Jersey.

The MGM lion from one of the most recognizable logos in history has a gravesite right here in Gillette, New Jersey.

His name was Slats, the first lion to represent MGM after the studio was formed in 1924. He appeared in the famous studio logo during the silent-film era—before the iconic roar was ever heard on screen. Born at the Dublin Zoo in Ireland and originally named Cairbre, Slats was trained by legendary animal handler Volney Phifer and became the face of the world-famous MGM logo.

After Slats retired in 1928, MGM lent him to the Philadelphia Zoo where he lived out his golden years. When he passed away in the mid-1930s, his trainer, Phifer, had Slats' remains returned to his 27-acre animal farm on Morristown Road in Gillette, NJ for burial, planting a pine tree over the grave to "hold down the lion's spirit." Phifer’s estate later became a bustling haven for Broadway and vaudeville show animals, and reportedly even Cheeta from the Tarzan films.

While located on private property, a lion statue is visible from the road, marking the gravesite of Slat beneath Phifer's massive, original white pine tree.

🏡 Monmouth County Market Update — August 2026

The numbers are in, and the market is still moving!

Inventory remains relatively tight at 2.91 months, while homes that sell are averaging 102.02% of list price. The median sold price reached $760,000, with a median of 21 days on market.

The market is always changing, and timing matters whether you're buying, selling, or simply trying to figure out what your options look like.
