It is my pleasure to announce my candidacy for District 5 School Board Trustee. Being a lifelong resident of Seadrift, 58 years, and the daughter of a Commercial Fisherman, I have experience in work ethic. I am the mother of four children and 11 grandchildren. All of my children were reared in Seadrift and all went through the Seadrift school system. My oldest child worked in construction at the local plants, my second child is employed by me being a licensed realtor and accountant, my third child is an Orthopedic Physician’s Assistant and my youngest child is a Civil Engineer. I am proud to say that I as well as all my children received their educational start at Seadrift School.
I opened The Tax Depot, Inc, an accounting and tax preparation business in 1999 serving Calhoun, surrounding counties and clients that I have never personally met. My businesses have grown through word of mouth, my integrity and desire to help my community.
I began a career in Real Estate in 2006, being property manager for Swan Point Landing until December 2009. I received a Broker’s License in 2009 and opened Bay Breeze Real Estate, Inc where I served on the Board of Directors of Coastal Bend Association of Realtors from 2010 to present, holding each office for a term of one year, serving as President in 2014. I was named Realtor of the Year in 2015 and 2018. Meeting people and helping clients find the perfect property is the personal service given to every prospective buyer or seller.
I have been very active in activities of the local community, being Chamber of Commerce President 2009, 2010 and 2019. I served as Treasurer for the Chamber in 2020. I was appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Seadrift to the Seadrift Planning Commission. I support the local young people sponsoring softball, soccer, baseball and basketball teams as well as the Seadrift girls volleyball athletic program and am a contributor to the Calhoun County Fair. I am active in a local church, volunteering my time taking care of the bookkeeping needs of the church.
I decided to file for the Trustee position because I feel our children in Port O Connor and Seadrift need active representation. I am that Granny that goes to all the extracurricular activities, I am that supporter that helps when there is a need. This is not a political career move for me as my goal is to see that Port O Connor and Seadrift Schools have strong representation and all of our children in Calhoun County have every opportunity available to them to come together at the High School level to be the very best they can be. I bring accounting experience, life-long residency, knowledge of the needs of our small communities, support system of our teachers and administration, and most importantly, the love of Calhoun County and desire for our children to be successful adults when they leave our school system.
I still reside in Seadrift with my husband Gary, enjoying the San Antonio Bay breezes and spending time with my grandbabies and the community.
Thank you for the opportunity to further serve in a new capacity.
