WHAT A JOURNEY! Switching careers is usually not easy. Add to that restarting in the middle of a pandemic, in a totally new city where you know no one and are trying to break through the infamous “Seattle Freeze.”
It has been just a little more than four years since I began this new chapter. At the time, the market was super-hot, but then interest rates started climbing fast, and there were a lot of other challenges. But I focused on constantly learning, on showing up for clients – and that made the difference.
I won’t deny that I’ve had the thought: wow, this career is harder than I could have ever imagined – 74% of agents just starting out give up in their first year, and 87% will leave the industry within five years. But I am fortunate to have a family that supports me, and to work in an office where we are more than just colleagues: we are friends who are always ready to help each other, share our knowledge, and cheer on every small victory.
It was a slow and patient beginning, planting seeds and using my down time not only to prepare myself to become a great professional, but to forge meaningful connections.
Today when I look back, I can see how each moment held something valuable for me, whether I felt insecurity, sadness, or joy. To all of my clients: every tour, every open house, every coffee meetup where you shared your dreams and we talked through ways to make them come true – through all of this, I had the privilege of slowly becoming part of your story.
This is my first time as a top producer – and it’s just the beginning! I see this recognition as a way of affirming that I am doing what I love, which is to help people who I value not only as clients but as friends. And as a result of my success, I am able to give back to my community and to show my gratitude by supporting projects I believe in.
