🙌🏾 🍽️ Let’s Pack the House at Simply Soulful Cafe And Espresso on 2321 S Jackson St! 🤎 Lillian Rambus founded Simply Soulful Cafe as a tribute to her grandmother, honoring the love she shared with her family through food and fellowship!

Lillian faithfully owns and operates every major aspect her restaurant. At any given moment, she could be going on a grocery run, or handling payroll, or fixing broken kitchen machinery. She makes significant personal sacrifices to provide consistent cuisine and service for her customers.

💬 “[If you followed me around for a day] you would see that I don’t stop. No breaks. There are no breaks…I have sacrificed a lot of time with my children.” said Rambus.

The time and care she puts into her restaurant is evident the very moment you step inside. Lillian was intentional about creating a warm atmosphere that reminds her customers of the family dinners she grew up with.

💬 “It’s just the fact that people come in, and they mention that it feels like home to them. It’s a place where they can come and escape whatever’s going on in the day, listen to some good music and eat some good food.”

🙏🏾 The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle is proud to join the Alzheimer's Association, Washington State Chapter in their 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s has hurt so many of our families, but when we’re united, we can end the cycle of pain together! 💪🏾

🙌🏾 Join the ULMS Walk team led by our Director of Public Health, Kurt Ragin, to help raise funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research!

🗓️ The walk will be held SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3 at the Seattle Center International Fountain on Mercer St, Seattle, WA 98109.

⏰ Registration opens at 9:00 am, the Ceremony starts at 10:00 am, and the Walk begins at 10:30 AM.

🚨 YOUR VOICE MATTERS: Protect investment in our communities.

For nearly 50 years, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) has helped ensure that banks invest in the communities where they do business, particularly low- and moderate-income communities that have historically been harmed by redlining and discriminatory lending.

Today, proposed federal changes could weaken those protections.

For the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, this isn’t just about banking regulations. It’s about PEOPLE.

It could mean fewer resources for affordable housing.

Less capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Fewer pathways to homeownership.

Less investment in neighborhoods that have historically been denied access to credit and capital.

And less accountability for ensuring banks serve ALL of the communities where they do business.

These are the very issues ULMS works on every day.

Our families are working toward homeownership and building generational wealth. Our entrepreneurs need access to capital to start and grow businesses. Our region desperately needs more affordable housing. And our communities need investment, not disinvestment.

The Community Reinvestment Act was created in 1977 in response to redlining. Since 2010 alone, CRA has helped drive nearly $5 trillion in qualifying mortgages and small-business loans nationwide.

Now is the time to make your voice heard.

We encourage our community to learn about the proposed changes, submit a public comment, and contact your members of Congress and local leaders. Tell them what access to affordable housing, homeownership, small-business capital and community investment means to you, your family and your neighborhood.

The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle is looking to connect with talented photographers, videographers, filmmakers, and production teams to support upcoming projects and events. 📸🎥

From capturing the energy of our community events to telling powerful stories through photo and video, we’re looking for creative partners who know how to capture authentic moments, center lived experiences, and bring stories to life.

Opportunities may include event photography and videography, interviews and community storytelling, campaign content, short-form digital content, documentary-style projects, and other creative productions throughout the year.

We rallied and we marched — confronting the injustices of today and protecting our future for tomorrow! ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

🙏🏾 THANK YOU to everyone who showed up, supported, and helped spread the word for last Saturday’s Constitution Day Rally & March!

Nearly 80 community members came together and marched the Seattle streets from Garfield High School to the King County Courthouse, collectively confronting attacks on voting access and civil rights. People shared empowerment and love, not only with their peers in attendance, but for their city and country as a whole.

We extend deep gratitude to New Beginnings Christian Fellowship for co-hosting this effort, and to all of our beloved community partners who made this event possible!

Last Saturday wasn't just a moment in time; it's a movement that will carry impact into the primary election and beyond!

🤎 If you couldn’t make it to the march this past weekend, do not fret — your presence can still be felt both in-person and online with multiple activations led by our Advocacy & Community Engagement Team (ACE). 👇🏾

🌟✊🏾🍽️ Pack the House is a ten-week campaign from The Seattle Medium, in partnership with the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle and Byrd Barr Place.

Every week for ten weeks, we feature one Black-owned restaurant — in the paper and online!

The ask is simple: show up. Dine in or order direct, bring someone with you and tell people where you went.

These restaurants are more than places to eat. They create jobs, strengthen our community and provide spaces where people connect and celebrate. What helps most isn’t just a good review — it’s becoming a regular.

A NOTE ON THE UPCOMING 25TH ANNUAL BREAKFAST:

We’re thrilled by the excitement surrounding our 25th Annual Breakfast: Empowerment in Action, and we’re grateful for the incredible enthusiasm and support we’ve already received from our community!

As questions have come in, we want to share a quick clarification regarding tickets from our previously scheduled 2025 Annual Breakfast.

Following the cancellation of the 2025 Annual Breakfast, ticket holders and sponsors were notified in April 2026 that A Night of Joy and Impact, held in June 2026, served as the replacement event, allowing us to honor those tickets and sponsorship benefits within the same fiscal year.

Because our 25th Annual Breakfast takes place in a new fiscal year, tickets and table benefits from the 2025 Annual Breakfast do not carry over to this year’s event. New tickets or sponsorships are required to attend the December 2026 Annual Breakfast.

We truly appreciate your continued support and understanding. The response to this year’s announcement has already been incredible, and we look forward to celebrating 25 years of impact with you this December!
