Big news for Tulalip and Snohomish County!

Known for its no frills burgers and loyal Pacific Northwest following, Dick’s Drive In officially broke ground on its newest location this week, marking the first time the iconic Seattle burger chain will open a restaurant on a reservation.

The new location will sit across from Quil Ceda Creek Casino and is expected to bring new jobs, community gathering space, and plenty of Deluxe burgers to the area.

No opening date has been announced yet, but construction is underway.

Most parents think they’re shopping for a house.

They’re actually shopping for a school district.

Because years from now, your kids probably won’t remember the kitchen countertops…

But they’ll remember their teachers, friends, sports teams, and opportunities they had growing up.

If schools were my #1 priority in the Greater Seattle area, these are the areas I’d be looking at first:

📍 Lake Stevens
A family favorite with strong schools, newer neighborhoods, and plenty of parks and recreation.

📍 Snohomish
Small town charm, strong community feel, and schools that keep families rooted for the long term.

📍 Mill Creek / Mukilteo
Great schools, convenient location, and one of the most established family focused areas north of Seattle.

📍 Sammamish / Issaquah
Often at the top of many families’ lists for academics, activities, and overall quality of life.

📍 Bonney Lake / Tehaleh
Newer communities, growing amenities, and a popular choice for families wanting more home for their money.

The biggest mistake I see?

People fall in love with a house before they understand the community.

A house can be renovated.

A school district can’t.

You don’t realize how much something is stressing you out until it’s no longer part of your life.

For us, moving from Hawai’i to Washington wasn’t about escaping paradise.

We still love Hawai’i.

But there were a handful of things that had become so normal that we stopped questioning them…

Paying extra for everyday items.
Waiting longer for deliveries.
Feeling like every trip required a plane ticket.
Wondering if there were more opportunities somewhere else.

None of these things were deal breakers on their own.

But when you stack them together year after year, they quietly take up more mental space than you realize.

The funny part?

We didn’t fully appreciate the difference until after we moved.
