Amy McKenna Homes

Amy McKenna Homes Helping people find their nest (or leave their old one) in the Seattle area. A homebuyer or seller can never be too educated or informed.

My zeal for guiding homebuyers and sellers (especially first-timers) sprang from my own experience buying our first home before I was a realtor. While it’s a funny story now, that adventure taught me that not only does an agent need to be knowledgeable, professional, proactive and responsive, but they also need to answer the questions a client doesn’t even know to ask. As a one-person shop, I am t

he sole pilot of your homebuying or selling experience. I keep my active client list modest so I can be more present and responsive to each of my client’s needs. I also have an extended wealth of insight, expertise, support, and resources from working alongside many high caliber colleagues at Windermere Ballard. Having respectful, collegial relationships with other brokers has often been the key to a transaction being both successful and smooth. And the magic of a healthy sense of humor can never be overstated! With nature conservancy, animal welfare and community among my passions, I always make a donation to one of several related charities with every transaction. If you would like to chat about those subjects, the real estate market, Seattle neighborhoods, Shakespeare, or, well, gosh… anything, reach out to me -- I’d love to meet you and see if I can help make your housing dreams a reality. (If you would like to hear what past clients have to say, you can click on my Testimonials page or look on Zillow.)

I've been so lax about posting that haven't announced the talk I'm giving today at Evergreen Hearts Foundation's ConnecTed about Co-Homeownership! In their kind words:

"In a world where loneliness is rising and housing prices soar, McKenna’s vision is both revolutionary and refreshingly human. She invites us to imagine homes designed not for isolation, but for collaboration — where shared kitchens become creative studios, gardens grow from collective care, and living rooms turn into living laboratories for trust, growth, and joy. The secret, she says, isn’t just about money or mortgages. It’s about mindset. Co-homeownership works when people bring creativity, communication, and a sense of play to the process. It’s about designing life as a partnership — whether between friends who want to age gracefully together, couples expanding their constellation of care, or families of choice determined to build stability on their own terms."

Ruby and I had a blast being interviewed about co-homeownership on the Madness Cafe podcast. Jennifer Moorman Bolaños and Raquel Howard welcomed us with curiosity, open minds, and great questions. May the trend toward creative homeowning co-living solutions beyond the restrictive nuclear family model continue to evolve -- we need it!

How many times have you joked with your friends about buying that big vacation house on the beach or about living together in your retirement a la The Golden Girls? It doesn't have to be a joke. For many people, it's a realistic solution to housin...

This Saturday come join Ruby Grynberg and I while we talk this about the basics of co-homeownership. We’ll discuss pros & cons; financing requirements; housing options to consider, agreements to make it work; and resources to help you start.

Owning property with friends, family, or partners can:

- Start first-time homebuyers on their equity-building journey earlier;

- Let a polycule live together or on separate dwellings on one property;

- Help a family enjoy intergenerational living;

- Allow friends learn to invest together by buying a shared investment property

- Help seniors to age in place in a community of friends.

Q&A and open discussion afterward. Bring your partners and your questions! Link in bio.

Lemonade stand set up outside the Loyal Beights listing I was previewing. An open house was about to start, which was a calculated move on the part of these entrepreneurial sharks. I asked who had picked the soundtrack on their speaker and the Boss Man in the b-ball cap casually tossed his head over his shoulder: "Mr. Emo here."

Clients celebrating their one-year houseversary had a question about the discrepancy between the square footage given on the original listing and the ultimate tax/appraisal square footage. I quickly made a video for them because they were out of cell phone range and emails and texts lack nuance. With a video I could use comparable sales to explain the (unfortunately common) phenomenon. Communication and responsiveness is everything.

Tomorrow’s Co-Buying & Coffee talk tomorrow with is filling up and going to be a blast. It’s been fun creating worksheets, glossaries, and other resources for co-buyers to walk away with. We’re also asking for feedback from attendees about what they’d like to hear in future talks or during our online discussions where we go into subjexts in more depth multi-borrower lending, co-ownership agreements, budgeting, etc).

Let me know if you’d like to attend future talks, an online chat, or if you’d like us to craft a talk for your own co-buying group!
