We take a hands-on, leadership approach to environmental sustainability. Being a good neighbor is an important part of our business. Henbart Company is a commercial real estate investment company, formed in 1922 by George Bartell Sr. Henbart represents Bartell’s first initial, and a combination of his middle and last names. Over the years, the Henbart Company has purchased property that it subsequ
ently leased to Bartell Drugs for its stores. However, the company has bought property for other purposes. developed an interest in design and construction as a young man, and did much of the layout work for new and remodeled Bartell drugstores for nearly his entire career. He managed the Henbart Company in the early 1960s, and though he subsequently returned to a more active role at Bartell Drugs, his interest in property development remained. He soon took on a project that he would be especially proud of. Henbart had purchased nine lots along with western shore of Lake Union in 1949, and Bartell sow the potential in developing this property. In 1969, he designed a seven-story office building for the site at 1700 Westlake Avenue N, and bought another lot for a parking structure just south of the existing property. Building permits were issued later that year, and the $3.25 million project took nearly two years to complete. The Lake Union Building opened in September 1971. A marina (presently known as the Lake Union Building Marina) followed in 1980. In 2008 Henbart added a president, Mark Craig, and a separate board of directors to more actively manage its real estate portfolio. In 2013, Bartell Drugs and Henbart became wholly owned subsidiaries of a new parent company, B. Alliance Holdings, Inc. Today, Henbart develops, owns, and manages commercial real estate properties in King and Snohomish counties. Like Bartell’s, Henbart concentrates its efforts in the Puget Sound region and reinvests locally.
