Today I had to help a dear friend and former colleague with an appointment at Kaiser Permanente. It’s always a little emotional going back—this was the place I thought I’d retire from. I miss helping the patients, my team, leaders and the staff.

As we checked in I ran into a staff member who didn’t know my position was eliminated. He was then visibly upset and I said no it is ok. I told him I’m now a Real Estate Broker with Windermere, he looked surprised—but I told him it was something I had always wanted to do but was nervous of the unknown.

As I walked off campus, I helped a lost patient find their way—some things never change. In that moment, I realized I’m still doing what I’ve always loved: helping people. Now, I have the privilege of working with former colleagues, friends, and their families as they navigate the often challenging world of real estate—with someone they know, trust, and who genuinely cares about them, not just the transaction.

Finally, I came home to find my new OPEN house signs had arrived. A small moment, but a big reminder that I’m on the right path because I allowed my mind and heart to be open to the change and not fear it.

Stay open —sometimes the detour turns out to be the dream. Happy Spring!
