Change in Drinking Water Disinfectant

This is to advise you that from April 17th, 2026 through May 6th, 2026, the City of Vero Beach, as part of its annual maintenance activities, will be using “free chlorine” for the disinfection of its drinking water. We recognize that this temporary change in disinfection may affect dialysis operations and your patients. Normally we use chloramines (a combination of chlorine and ammonia). The water supplied to your patients who live within our service territory may contain chlorine, ammonia, or a combination of the two during this period.

You may expect our drinking water to contain up to 3.5 ppm (mg/l) of free chlorine at times during this period. You may also expect the water to contain free chlorine, ammonia, and chloramine.

We will resume feeding ammonia to form chloramines on May 7th, 2026. For approximately one week after this, the water in different parts of our distribution system may contain both free and combined chlorine as the water with free chlorine is used by customers and replaced with water containing chloramines.
