WIND STORM UPDATE
Monday, October 25, 2021 - 9:30 a.m.

Damage assessment and restoration efforts begin
• Damaging winds and rain caused power outages across our service area yesterday morning and into the afternoon and evening hours. While a wind advisory for the East Puget Sound Lowlands expired yesterday at 6 p.m., a high wind warning remains in effect in parts of our Northern service area until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26. With the high forecasted winds today we anticipate the possibility of more outages, causing restoration efforts to continue for some time. With the need to ensure crew safety in high winds, restorations may take longer during this time, so we request customers to please plan accordingly.
• The majority of current outages are concentrated in King and Pierce counties, with especially hard hit areas in and around Enumclaw, Graham, Issaquah, Orting, Redmond, Sammamish, Skykomish and Snoqualmie. With active weather expected to continue throughout the day Monday and into Tuesday, we will continue to respond to new outages as they occur.
• Storm response personnel are in the field assessing damage and restoring power to customers as it is safe to do so, and our Emergency Coordination Center is fully staffed supporting local storm bases working on restoration efforts. We have also called in crews from outside our region for additional restoration support.
• Over 141,000 customers have been impacted since the onset of this storm event, with over 116,000 restored so far. Currently, 25,000 customers remain without power.
• Today’s power outages are the result of strong winds coupled with stressed trees that still have their leaves. In gusty winds, that means trees can topple more easily and damage power equipment, and branches can take flight and hit power lines.
• Our first step in restoring power is damage assessment: getting an on-the-ground look at what’s been done to the system and determining the extent of repairs that are needed. The process takes time and crews may be delayed, especially if unsafe weather and road conditions remain an issue.
• Estimated restoration times are determined based on multiple factors, including damage severity, number of damage points on the electric system, available resources, weather or access challenges, and historical storm response data.
o This process takes time in a widespread wind event – especially with active weather still occurring – and we truly appreciate your patience as we work to provide estimated restoration times as quickly as possible.
o As we gain more visibility through boots-on-the-ground assessments, we add and update estimated restoration times on the outage map at pse.com/outagemap. You can also check status on the myPSE app.
Safety first
• Never touch or go within 35 feet of downed power lines because they might be energized. Call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 to report problems.
If you are without power, remember:
• Never use a natural gas range for heating, or charcoal as an indoor heating or cooking source.
• If you’re using portable heaters, keep them away from furniture, draperies and other flammable materials.
• Always use flashlights instead of candles.
Report and track power outages:
• PSE storm resources: pse.com/storm
• Online outage reporting: pse.com/outage
• Outage map: pse.com/outagemap
• myPSE mobile app: pse.com/app
