I decided on a River Bottom hunt this evening. After baiting the area with corn, I sat back in the truck seat with a beer and a good western novel, to wait for dark. As the sun set, I counted 24 deer on the corn that I had put out to attract the hogs. But not long after darkness arrived, so did this BIG BOAR!!!!
A short 75 yard stalk had me at 40 yards and a 300 gr. Hornady XTP bullet had him DRT.
He tipped the scale at 229 #.
And since he was very fat, his sides will become BACON and his backstraps will become CANADIAN BACON.
I LOVE BACON!!!
Nothing better!!!

Gerald and I went out yesterday to check out a new property to hunt. It looked so good, we decided to hunt it last night.
When we baited yesterday afternoon, we went all out since we didn't know much about where the hogs were likely to be. There was rooting all over.
We knew if we walked all we baited, it might be 1 1/2 miles of walking, but we were able to bait where the wind would always be good.
We got there about 30 minutes after dark and parked on the NW corner. After walking only about 100 yards, we spotted about 7 pigs 80 yards away. We snuck in and I shot the sow with white legs. DRT!!
They clearly were not bothered much by the 44 mag. suppressed rifle and only went about 60 yards and started eating again. So a brief stalk and I got the big boar DRT.
Again, they only went about 100 yards and Gerald was about to shoot a bigger boar when they walked into the brush and disappeared. So close to getting the shot, but it just didn't stop. We then went to the east side of the property and walked several hundred yards to a tank where we had baited all the way around. There was a different group of 12 there and we got the other big sow DRT.
WHAT A FUN HUNT!!!
I think this is going to be a terrific property.
Another great addition to the places we already have.

Well, Gerald and I had our very first ALL WOMAN HUNT at NIGHTHOGS a couple of nights ago. One of these great ladies and her husband hunted with us last year and she had such a great time that she wanted to come back with some of her friends for another. We had such a super time with all of them. Their excitement level was off the charts and they never stopped smiling. They all harvested hogs and can't wait to come back.
They will certainly be welcome!!!

On Saturday night, Rudy was back for his 4th hunt with NIGHTHOGS.
This time, his son was with him for his first hunt where he was going to be able to shoot.
At the first property we went to, we found a group of 6 nice hogs.
A short stalk got us to 40 yards and within a couple of minutes, he had his first ever HOG DRT!!!
A bit later, Rudy was on a stalk to another hog. It was feeding away from us, so we had to setup twice before we got the shot. It was spot on and hog number two was also DRT.
We are always excited to introduce young hunters to our sport and get them into position to kill their very first hog.
Great shooting for both of them.

A few nights ago, Ryan, Jarod and Derek were here for their first NIGHTHOGS HUNT. At our first encounter, Ryan shot a really nice hog and the rest of the group just stood there looking around. A second hog turned broadside and I gave him the ok to shoot it. Both were DRT 10' apart.
A bit later, Jarod got a beauty with the BEST SHOT OF THE NIGHT on a 160 # sow.
Before the night was up, Derek put down another DANDY.
All 4 hogs were DRT SHOTS!!!
When we finished butchering the four hogs, their 150 Qt ice chest was totally full of meat and so heavy, it took all three of them to load it. Plus another 40 # or so of meat that didn't fit in the first cooler.
Everyone was super happy with the successful hunt and vowed to be back soon!!!

Father and son hunts are always tons of fun and we do quite a few of them. But sometimes we also get to do father and daughter hunts, as was the case on this night. It's great that we have the opportunity to help guide young hunters like this to a passion for our sport.

Another great TROPHY HOG for one of our clients. He asked that his picture not be posted here but he was VERY HAPPY with this giant.
I'm not sure why, but we have been seeing some very big hogs recently.
Pecan season is coming soon also. We hunt numerous pecan orchards and pecans are a favorite food for hogs. It's always an exciting time to hunt.

Hello to all of our friends!!!
It's been a very long time since I posted anything on Facebook, because I think this format is very bad for our society.
That being said, I know lots of our clients come to our page and I've been asked to post pics and stories about our hunts again.
Here are a few recent pics.
We are getting into prime hunting season and now that TPWD has removed the need for a Texas Hunting license to hunt feral hogs, it will be much easier on our hunters.
We have openings, so call for dates.

When Keith Warren called a few weeks ago and told me that he and his daughter Matti, would like to do another hunt for his TV Show "The High Road" and his YouTube channel, both Gerald and I were excited about doing it again. A date was chosen and last night we were ready for it to happen. As many of you know, we have done several TV shows with Keith over the last few years and it is ALWAYS Great Fun!!
The evening began with hogs at the first spot we checked and our success continued throughout the hunt. There was no shortage of pigs and by the end of the hunt, Matti and Keith had each killed 2 good ones.
We can't wait until the footage has been edited and assembled and we'll get to see all the action unfold again.
We'll post links when it is available on his channel and when it is broadcast on his TV Show "The High Road"

When Mark and Jarod arrived for their first hunt with NIGHTHOGS on Sunday evening, it was pretty clear that they were excited. Gerald and I were also excited, due to the great scouting activity we had seen that afternoon while checking cameras and baiting. It all pointed to a high likelihood of success. We found a group of hogs right away and there were hogs at just about every area we checked that evening.
Shooting was superb and between the two of them, they put down five great hogs, all with DRT shots. By the end of the hunt, they were already texting their friends to invite them on their next hunt. I believe we have created a couple more HOG KILLING JUNKIES!!!!!
I'm sure we will see these two again soon, along with a few of their friends.

It was great to have Dan and Adam back for their second hunt with NIGHTHOGS. This time they brought Charlie along with them. Hunting was excellent and they had lots of meat to take back with them. See you guys again soon.
