🚨 Washer Hose Leak in the Basement – Water Mitigation in Action 🚨

While the homeowners were away on vacation, the rubber hose attached to the hot water supply for their washing machine sprung a tiny pinhole leak. Unfortunately, even a small leak from a hot water line can create major issues. The hot water released steam and heavy humidity, and when we opened the basement doors, a wave of moisture hit us immediately 🌫️.

By the time we arrived, the leak had created a layer of water across the entire basement floor, soaking into furniture, belongings, and base moldings. We quickly:
✅ Removed the base moldings to stop further wicking
✅ Set up fans and a commercial dehumidifier for rapid drying
✅ Wiped down affected surfaces with an EPA-registered antimicrobial
✅ Confirmed this was a Category 1 (clean water) loss, which meant we could dry materials safely before mold growth started

⚠️ Pro Tip: Rubber hoses on washers are risky. Always replace them with metal braided hoses to prevent these types of leaks. If you have rubber hoses now, consider swapping them out before they cause damage!

During the recent rainstorms in a home in Dix Hills, water accumulated on a hill adjacent to the house, forming a massive puddle—essentially a lake. With nowhere for the water to drain away from the home, it flooded into the basement, increasing the humidity and soaking the sheetrock, creating ideal conditions for mold growth. The homeowners had a company come in to tear out the sheetrock but were unaware that mold levels were elevated, which led to contamination in other areas of the home.

The family, concerned about their health and that of their grandkids who spend time in the house, faced unnecessary risks.
