Lake Keowee, Lake Hartwell & The Blue Ridge Mountains
Constructed by Duke Power Company to generate hydroelectric power, Lake Keowee is one of the most beautiful fresh water lakes in the entire South offering majestic mountain views and sparkling blue water. The lake is fed from nearby mountain streams. Lake Keowee consists of about 18,000 acres with approximately 300 miles of shoreline. Only about 1/4 of the shoreline has been developed resulting in an un-crowded lake which is perfect for boating, fishing, sailing and other water activities. It is also the site of Professional Bass Tournaments each year as well as local tournaments. Lake Keowee is owned by Duke Energy Corp. which controls the lake frontage and water level. Lake Keowee property owners own the waterfront which is different than the Corps of Engineering restrictions such as on Lake Hartwell. Hartwell Lake is one of the southeast’s largest and most popular public recreation lakes. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963. We also have beautiful mountain lakes. Lake Becky, Lake Chattooga, Lake Cheohee, Lake Cherokee, Fiddler’s Cove, Lake Jocassee, Whitewater Lake, Crystal Lake and Mountain Rest Lake all offer their own unique beauty. Sitting at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains we enjoy numerous waterfalls and hiking trails. Whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River or Ziplining in the mountains is our playground.
