"Why wouldn't they want to stay at a cabin in the mountains?"
In the early 1980's, as Butch & Brenda Smith were sharing their vision with local banks, friends, and family, there was some doubt about why visitors would want to rent a cabin for their visit to the Smoky Mountains. Especially a primitive log cabin in the middle of nowhere, several miles from Pigeon Forge or even a few more miles to the mountain town of Gatlinburg. Many people told them outright it would never work. Interest rates were ~18% and my brother, sister, and I were 5 and under.
But the World's Fair was coming to Knoxville the following year, and hope and optimism were high! So "the middle of nowhere" became "off the beaten path" and the adventure began.
On October 1, 1981, 45 years ago today, Hidden Mountain View Log Cabin & Chalet Rentals opened in Sevierville, TN. 💛🖤💚
As guests began arriving and experiencing Hidden Mountain, they also began returning. They saw the creeks and the views; fell in love with the natural landscape; heard the rustling of leaves and the song of birds; felt the quiet darkness of mountain nights and woke up to a glowing sunrise streaming through across the mountaintops. And some of these guests still stay with us today. ❤️
While Mom and Dad had big dreams and an unstoppable work ethic, I doubt they could even imagine how much God had in store for them. One faithful step at a time brought all of us to the Hidden Mountain Resort we know and love today!
