Don’t miss this hidden piece of Seward’s history.
Tucked along Resurrection Bay, near the waterfront campground, you can spot remnants of the old docks lost during the devastating 1964 Alaska earthquake.
On March 27, 1964, a magnitude 9.2 earthquake shook Alaska. Along Seward’s waterfront, the ground itself slid into the bay, taking docks and harbor facilities with it. Tsunami waves brought even more destruction. The waterfront you see today was rebuilt after that disaster. These remnants are a quiet reminder of the day the shoreline changed forever.
📍 Next time you’re exploring Seward, take a little walk along the waterfront and look for traces of the past. It’s easy to pass by without realizing the history beneath the surface.
Save this for your Seward, Alaska trip!
