When saving for a down payment, letting cash sit in a low-interest account can cost buyers thousands.

Two common options are high-yield savings accounts (HYSAs) and certificates of deposit (CDs). HYSAs offer around 3%–4% interest with easy access but variable rates. CDs typically pay slightly higher fixed rates but require locking up funds and charge penalties for early withdrawals.

Both are FDIC-insured up to $250,000. The right choice depends on how soon you plan to buy and how much access you need to your money.

Owls are so awesome looking!

As I was driving to Mom's house yesterday, Kim saw this wonderful Great Gray Owl sitting on a fencepost as we drove by. I pulled off the highway and spent the next half hour watching him hunting along the fenceline. He never caught anything while I was watching, but it was a neat experience.
