So today is an emotional one for me, and I don't like being emotional. But, huge news- I'm retiring. Effective 10/31 the title company, Abstract Resources Inc. will no longer be accepting any more applications and will complete all closings by the end of the year. During this time I will be transitioning to becoming a part time independent searcher. As of 12/31, I will move the company to my home. It's been an awesome ride, I've enjoyed prepping and doing closings, meeting people, working with my favorite Realtors and Lenders and showing off my skills to the ones who never had the pleasure of being pampered in a transaction. lol

To say I will miss it- yes, I will. I've put my heart and soul into this place, striving for quality, not quantity. It will take some getting used to but I have a ton of things I will do to keep going. Hopefully retirement is everything I hear it is. So, for the last time- I'm Barb Mikielski of Abstract Resources, where we're researching the past to protect your future.

I usually end my closing with info about scams that happen when your deed becomes public record. I received one- a company saying my home warranty has expired. It was referencing a mortgage I had several years ago. No Lender will buy a home warranty for you. Please don’t fall for this scam!

In every purchase closing I always end with some cautionary tales of scams. Well, today was a bit unusual. We received a scam letter that would have been mailed to our client. I've white out the info for that property but here is the letter that is received...

If you receive a letter and we did your closing- we will send you the original deed, if you misplace it, we can send a new one- free! Please don't fall for these scams!

I was contacted by a client who said they received a notice for a cancellation of a home warranty purchased by their Lender. I verified with the Lender there is no home warranty. After doing a google search of the company, it appears this is a scam and this is not a reputable company (Better Business Bureau has many complaints). I f you receive a request please research it before purchasing anything.

If anyone uses the UPS drop box outside the office, it was taken for repair today. If you shipped yesterday from there, the packages are stuck in it. They say it will return but they don't know when. (can I say I have separation anxiety now)
