Hammy is such a good boy that is just not tolerating shelter life. I was able to spend some good time with him on Tuesday and he just wanted to snuggle. He was able to calm down and almost fell asleep in my lap but unfortunately became pretty worked up again once he realized it was time to go back to his kennel.

Hammy is seeking rescue placement and must have placement by 5pm on 9/21, due to becoming increasingly stressed and difficult to handle here at the shelter. He has been placed on bite quarantine today, due to biting a staff member when they were attempting to get him out of his kennel. He is just too amped up and stressed when first coming out, leash biting and frantic to get out. We would like to get Hammy out of the shelter and into a less stressful environment as soon as possible.
Recent volunteer notes: “Hammy can be difficult to leash due to leash biting. He is very smart and has quickly become not distracted by using a stuffy or Nyla with pb. He does leash more easily in his outside portion of the kennel IF his neighbors are inside. Once he has to come inside the kennel before heading outside is when he starts to leash bite and jump. Once he’s in the hall or outside, he does not continue the leash biting and the jumping.
Hammy is a different dog outside of the kennel. He walks great on leash. He met another dog through the fence at the dog park and he offered play bows, loose body language, and tail wags, but also picked up that the other dog was more interested in playing with a tennis ball then meeting hammy after a minute and hammy just laid down at the fence line and played with his own toy. Hammy does not exhibit any jumpy/mouthy behavior once he is outside of the kennel.”
