Expecting trick-or-treaters? 🎃

Take five minutes before Halloween and look at your front walkway after dark.

A few things to check:

✓ Cords, hoses or decorations crossing the path
✓ Loose or slippery mats
✓ Poorly lit steps
✓ Decorations that could fall into the walkway
✓ Pets are secured somewhere safe if the door will be opening repeatedly

None of these tasks are complicated… and they are easier to do before the doorbell starts ringing.

Heads up, Sheridan: Saturday night is dropping to 26F. That first hard freeze is the one that bursts pipes.

Do these by Friday night:
1. Unhook garden hoses + shut off outside spigots
2. Cover exposed pipes in the garage/crawlspace (foam sleeves, ~$5 at the hardware store)
3. Open the cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls
4. Heat to at least 55F if you're out of town this weekend
5. Saturday night: let faucets drip a pencil-thin stream

Pipes burst because water expands when it freezes — a dripping faucet gives it somewhere to go.
