Struggling with dry weather? For cool-season grass (like Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, or ryegrass), cutting higher—think 3.5 to 4 inches—is your secret weapon! Taller grass shades the soil, grows deeper roots, and stays greener longer, even in a drought.

1. Deeper Roots: Keeping grass taller (closer to 3.5 inches or even slightly higher, like 4 inches) encourages deeper root growth. Deeper roots can access moisture lower in the soil, helping the grass survive dry spells better.

Grateful we get the opportunity to help with this community event again this year!

Mark your calendars! Franklin County will host a tire collection event on Friday, April 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the former Franklin County Jail on Franklin Farm Lane in Chambersburg.

Franklin County residents must pre-register for this first-come, first-served event, and this event is open to county residents only. There is a limit of 20 tires per household and the fees are:
- Regular vehicle tires (up to 35 inches in height) – $1 per tire
- Tires measuring 36-47 inches in height – $2 per tire
- Tires measuring 48 inches in height or larger – $15 per tire

Tires on rims and tires that are full of debris such as mud, water or concrete will not be accepted.

This collection event helps Franklin County residents dispose of unwanted tires for a reduced fee while at the same time eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites. On average, one water-filled tire can produce 10,000 mosquitoes per year. Staff from the county’s Planning Department, under its mosquito and tick-borne disease control program, and ACO Landscaping & Junk Removal LLC are coordinating the event.

One of the larger 2024 projects we did! We formed several new beds with nice clean edges. We placed a heavy w**d barrier as we do with all rock installations. In the front we used a 1” river rock to provide a smoother and cleaner appearance. In the back we used a 1-3” river rock to act as a separation from the woods. Totaling 15 tons of rock it was quite a task. We strive to provide quality work that will look great for years to come! You can expect the same quality whether it’s a large project like this or we are mowing your yard. For us it’s about doing it the right way, not just the quickest or easiest way!
