Attention Thrill-Seekers: Welcome to the Leaning Light Poles of Kipling Estates! ComEd & Shorewood, Illinois’s newest, ugliest & most dangerous tourism destination located West of River Road, between Seil & Mound Road.
These gravity-defying architectural wonders have been a closely guarded secret (and embarrassment) of Kipling Estates residents for years. But the word has gotten out and adrenaline junkies come from near and far, risking life & limb, to marvel at these mind-bending displays of infrastructure incompetence… Thanks ComEd!
“It’s like a game of Russian Roulette,” said a Chicago risk taker who heard about the neighborhood death traps. “You know they’re gonna fall, you know they can kill you... but that spike in adrenaline when basking in their long shadows is what keeps you coming back for more.”
So gas up the station wagon, SUV or minivan, pack a lunch and plan your next adventure to see how close you can get to one of Kipling Estates’s countless leaning light poles while dodging bodily injury, property damage or death.
Make a visit to Kipling Estates before it’s too late... because much like the polar ice caps, these treasures won’t be around for long! Scientists predict their extinction within the next 12-18 months... Not because ComEd or the Village of Shorewood will actually take any significant action (I mean they haven’t in the last 10 years)... but because it’s only a matter of time before these crown jewels topple to the ground... hopefully without carnage in their wake.
Ok, so this is obviously a joke. These Leaning Light Poles are dangerous and embarrassing. This has been a fight for over 10 years with no action. This issue needs to become an elevated priority with ComEd, Village of Shorewood and Mayor Richard Chapman and I believe the way we can do that is by promoting this page.
Here is how you can help:
