It started with a dare to do real estate better than anyone else. Sitting by the pool in 2014, the summer after we shared the role of first grade class parents, Jill was rattling off the many ways she was dissatisfied with the recent sale of her first West Orange home. We both agreed we could have done a better job marketing her house. After all, we had each spent 20 years in the entertainment ind

ustry - Jill as a music industry marketing executive and Amy as a television producer. We were convinced that our skills of knowing how to sell and tell a story, as well as seeing a project/deal through its complexities, would make us much more effective agents. Let’s do more than complain - let’s get our real estate licenses and change the business. And that’s how the NJ Home Girls began. Partners since day one, we have been dedicated to providing a thoughtful and thorough real estate experience to each of our clients. The buyers and sellers we have worked with cite our attention to detail, knowledge of the market, and communication styles among the reasons they recommend us. We’ve negotiated through tough inspection concerns to get to the closing table… and advised our clients when it’s time to make the tough decision of walking away from a deal that isn’t working toward their best interests. We’re problem solvers who have worked through the anticipated challenges and even those no one could see coming (like an attorney quitting on closing day… Oh, we’ve got stories!). We’ve been there/done that…

We’ve each bought and sold several of our own houses. We’ve made the move from NYC to the NJ suburbs. We’ve managed a home during hurricanes, ice storms, and power outages. We’ve done the work commute. We’ve raised our kids in and been active members of our community. We’ve found the pre-schools, coffee shops, plumbers, enrichment classes, and gyms (though those we admittedly don’t use as often as we should!). We draw from all of these experiences and share them with our clients so that they have the information and resources to make a decision that works best for them. We love what we do… and we REALLY love to share our love for New Jersey. We are Jersey Girls through and through… and are more than happy to share our joy of living in the Great State of New Jersey. Some listings find you before you even know they’re coming.

Years ago, we spotted an estate sale sign on one of our favorite Gregory neighborhood homes — built in 1882, full of original details I’d always been curious about. We introduced ourselves to the new owner, who had just inherited it from his mom (his family had lived there since 1963!), and fell in love with every ornate detail inside.

Jill wrote him a letter. Just a genuine note letting him know we live in the neighborhood and would love to help if he ever decided to sell.

Two+ years of staying in touch later… he called. It was time.

We listed it as a Compass Private Exclusive while he prepped the home, and after ONE showing — the meant-to-be buyers were found. Seller got his dream price. ✅

There are THREE transactions behind this sale.

#1️⃣ 9 years ago when friends reached out for help moving to a neighoring town. They wanted to test the waters - to make sure the town was the right fit for their family - so the first step was a RENTAL - which we helped them find. (Yes, we do rentals too!)

#2️⃣ When they knew they were going to stay put they called us to help them BUY a house in Millburn. With a limited budget, that can be a challenge in one of the state’s most expensive towns. But we did… and it was that kind of sweet spot that we love to identify: a house that needs a little loving, but you can move in and do the work down the road. (Which is exactly what they did… updating the kitchen and primary bathroom during the pandemic.)

#3️⃣ Fast forward seven years and the kids have graduated from high school, and it’s time to move on. So they called us …again. This time, we were SELLING their home. And with the right pricing and marketing strategy, we got them multiple offers within a week - and a sale price that made them a significant profit from their original purchase. As the buyer was a builder, there were a few challenges getting to the closing table, but with a lot of tenacity on our end (as well as the buying agent), we got there!

Oh wait… there’s a 4️⃣th part to this story. But that’s still waiting to be finished, so you’ll have to stay tuned!

The clients who closed on this house this week knew exactly what they were looking for — what really mattered as they made the move from Brooklyn to the NJ suburbs.

And the second they walked into this house, they just knew: this was THE ONE.

Our job was to help them get it.

What did we do?

▪️Wrote an offer that stood out in a multiple-offer situation
▪️Connected them to an inspector who thoroughly checked every system — especially important in an as-is sale
▪️Suggested a rock-solid attorney who brought clarity and fiercely advocated for their interests
▪️Untangled a surprise easement with the neighbors — mitigating a potential challenge that could have added days or even weeks to the closing timeline
▪️Caught a last-minute issue during the walkthrough — and helped negotiate a credit
▪️And even hauled out some of the sellers’ left-behind stuff so our clients could walk into a clean house and just exhale

This is what we do as buyers’ agents.
