We are excited to share some big news about the future of The Ingrid Lochte Team!
Realty ONE Group Generations is joining forces with Realty ONE Group Unlimited, and we are genuinely excited about what this next chapter means for our team, our clients and the communities we serve.
Our Shrewsbury and York locations will remain right where they are, giving our clients the same convenient local brick-and-mortar offices they have today.

The Ingrid Lochte Team has always served clients on BOTH sides of the Maryland/Pennsylvania line. Ingrid has been selling real estate in Maryland since 1999, and our Maryland business and the relationships we have built there continue to be an important part of who we are. “I love my house. I just do not want to take care of all of this anymore.”

I hear some version of that all the time.

The yard. The maintenance. The rooms no one uses anymore. The thought of another winter. At some point, a house that has worked beautifully for years can start to feel like a lot of work.

But does that mean it is time to downsize?

Not necessarily.

The better question is:

Does your home still fit the way you want to live?

Maybe you are using only a few rooms, tired of the upkeep, thinking about traveling more, or simply ready for something easier. Downsizing does not mean giving up. It can mean making life a little simpler and creating more time for the things you enjoy.

But downsizing is not right for everyone.

If you love your home, can comfortably manage the maintenance, and use the space for family, hobbies, entertaining, or working from home, there may be no reason to move just because your house feels “too big.”

There are also some practical things to think about:

• What will it actually cost you to move?
Selling, buying, moving, and getting settled somewhere new all cost money.

• How much will you really save?
A smaller home does not necessarily mean lower monthly expenses. Condo fees, HOA fees, taxes, insurance, and today’s home prices can quickly eat into the savings you expected from downsizing.

• Do you still need the space?
Do children or grandchildren visit? Do you entertain? Do you have hobbies that take up space? Would you actually be happy living with less room?

• Why are you thinking about moving?
Is this something you have wanted for a while, or are you reacting to family pressure, last winter’s terrible weather, a big repair, or simply being fed up with taking care of the yard?

And then there is the question I think matters most:

Will this move improve your life?

If the answer is yes, then it may be time to come up with a plan.

If the answer is no, staying right where you are may be the better decision.

I have been helping people make these decisions and come up with a plan for more than twenty five years. Sometimes the right answer is to sell. Sometimes it is to stay put.

If downsizing has been on your mind, I would be happy to sit down with you, look at the numbers, talk through the options, and help you figure out what makes the most sense for you and your family.

The goal is not simply to move. The goal is to make your life better.
