The Sidney High School Boys Cross Country District Team is being recognized as Athlete of the Week after achieving a goal they set together at summer camp: qualifying for the Nebraska State Cross Country Championships as a team!
The team consists of seniors Mario Maytorena and Parker Dickman, both six-year members of the program; juniors Jasper Gulbranson and Devin Roach; and sophomores Hunter Elston, Tucker Hardin, and Zach Schumacher.
These seven young men have been putting in the work since mid-June, consistently challenging, encouraging, and pushing one another to become better runners. Along the way, they’ve earned personal records, climbed Sidney’s all-time record boards, and continued raising the standard for what this team can accomplish.
When it mattered most at the C-5 District Championships, the Raiders stepped up, raced with determination, and earned their opportunity to compete at State.
From their Coach:
“These young men have proven that hard work pays off. Together, they’ve logged an incredible 1,459 miles since June! At summer camp, they sat down and talked about their goals, and one of their biggest goals was making it to State as a team. They didn’t just talk about it. They showed up, put in the miles, pushed one another, and worked together to make it happen. I’m incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished, but even more proud of how they’ve accomplished it. They’ve learned that when each of us gets better, our entire team gets better. That’s the Raider Way.”
