The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) offers the Single-Family Housing Repair Loan & Grant Program β commonly known as the Section 504 Home Repair Program β which is specifically designed to support low-income homeowners in rural communities. This program helps eligible homeowners repair, improve, or modernize their homes, as well as remove health and safety hazards. Unfortunately, Sierra Vista is not considered βruralβ but other parts of the county are labeled rural.
Why This Matters for Your Community:
Many residents across Cochise County's rural communities may be unaware of this federal resource available to them. The Section 504 program provides:
β’ Loans of up to $40,000 to repair or improve a home
β’ Grants of up to $10,000 for elderly homeowners (age 62+) to remove health and safety hazards
β’ Combined loan and grant assistance of up to $50,000
Sierra Vista Mayor Clea McCaa shared this information, stating, "Sheriff Dannels, as your office regularly engages with residents throughout the county β including in our most rural and underserved areas β you are uniquely positioned to help spread the word about this program to those who may need it most. We welcome your partnership in connecting Cochise County residents with this valuable resource."
How Residents Can Apply:
Residents interested in this program are encouraged to:
1. Scan the Section 504 QR code on the attached flyer for direct program information
2. Contact the Sierra Vista Dream Center or Ramona McCaa which are available to assist eligible applicants in rural communities with packaging and submitting their applications
Mayor McCaa continued, "I encourage each of you to share this information with your constituents, community organizations, and local networks. Together, we can ensure that rural homeowners across Cochise County have access to the support they need to maintain safe, healthy, and stable homes."
