With this weekend's threat of severe weather, please remind your family - especially kids and teens - of what to do in case of tornado!! Most of us know what to do if we're at home but here's a few tips on what to do if you're not:
🏠 If you’re in a house:
Go to the basement if possible. No basement? Move to an interior room on the lowest level — away from windows. Bathrooms, closets, and hallways are often safest.
🚗 If you’re driving:
Do NOT try to outrun a tornado. If you can safely drive away from its path, do so. Otherwise, get to a sturdy building immediately.
If no shelter is available, stay low in a ditch or low-lying area and protect your head.
🚫 Do NOT shelter under an overpass.
🚶‍♀️ If you’re outside walking or jogging:
Find the nearest sturdy building. If none is available, lie flat in a low area and cover your head and neck.
🚴 If you’re riding your bike:
Get off the bike and seek shelter immediately. Bikes can be replaced — you can’t. If no building is nearby, move to low ground and protect yourself.
🏕️ If you’re camping or at a ball field/park:
Leave tents and open shelters immediately and head for a solid building or storm shelter.
📱 A weather app and emergency alerts are great… but remember: tornado sirens are meant to warn people OUTSIDE. Don’t rely on hearing them indoors.
Stay weather aware, friends. And maybe don’t tempt fate by saying, "This would make a really cool video"
