As we head into the holiday season, it’s a great time to prepare your first-time homebuyers for opportunities coming early next year. Each February, new Federal Home Loan Bank grant funds are released to participating community banks typically ranging from $15,000 to $20,000.
These funds can be used toward down payment and closing cost assistance and may be combined with additional programs through Virginia Housing and local nonprofits. Together, these grants can make homeownership possible for eligible buyers with little to no money out of pocket.
The key is getting buyers pre-approved TODAY so they’re ready when grant funds become available. Early preparation ensures they know their price range, are fully educated on the process, and can move quickly when the right home appears.
