How to Start the Home Buying Process - Last steps.

7. On to closing! Once appraisal is complete and the lender has signed off on all stipulations we are ready to close. The day before closing you will need to wire the money for your down payment etc to the closing attorney. Your lender will give you the amount to wire about 3 days before closing. Be very careful with wiring money. The attorney will have a portal where you will be able to get the instructions. You will need to go to the bank and request a wire be sent to the attorney. When you are at the bank, call and confirm the wiring instructions. At the closing you will need your driver’s license and don’t forget to bring keys, garage door openers, etc.
8. After the closing you will get a good amount of mail wanting to sell you a copy of your deed but just toss them in the trash. About 30 days after closing you will get a copy of it in the mail. When you get it go ahead and file your homestead exemption with the county. Homestead exemption is letting the county know that you live in the home and you get a reduction on your property taxes. It is a good deal!
