TUESDAY NIGHT STORM RISK⛈

Happy Tuesday! Tonight kicks off the start of a pretty active pattern. After 5pm, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to form west off of the dry line. They will push east across the area overnight.

Isolated storms in western areas could become strong to severe. Slight risk for west and marginal for east with hail and damaging winds being the biggest concern.

Not everyone is going to see rain like we had this past weekend. Heavy rainfall and large hail will be within isolated storms. Tornado threat is low but never 0.

This pattern of afternoon/evening storms will continue each night through the weekend.

Always have at least 2 ways to receive alerts and have a plan for if/when severe weather arrives.

Please be aware of weather and road conditions in the next 24 hours. Sidewalks around mailboxes only have been treated with salt.

As we get closer and closer to the forecast snowfall, here is the latest prediction from the NWS. It is noted that 12" is on the extremely high end of the prediction, with 4-6" more likely. Either way, we may have icy roads, downed power lines, and other events triggered by this winter storm.

NWS has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING, with a high degree of confidence that at least some degree of the potential will become reality.

Please plan ahead, as snow is forecast as early as mid afternoon, and may continue through noon Wednesday. As of this notice, the temperature was already 30°, with the chill factor at 22°.

DANGEROUS STORM POTENTIAL TODAY VERY HIGH.

The National Weather Service in Midland has said we have not had a day with this degree of dangerous potential in over 10 years, so they are taking this extremely serious, and so should you.

Just to let you know how serious they are, on a scale of 1-5, Tornado=5, Damaging Wind=5, 2" or larger hail=5, flooding=3-1/2. Now obviously, that doesn't mean everybody everywhere will get this, but the storm system will be capable of this level of activity, and for all we know, Snyder could be the hot spot as storms develop. So again, this is the day to take the storm warnings serious.

If you have not signed up for weather alerts on your mobile phone, go here and do it now. https://tx-snyder.regroup.com/signup

Make plans for you and your family in the event you are displaced from your home due to tornado, hail or other significant damage. Should we get a rash of power line damage, we could be without power for days.

Prepare with items to take care of your needs for up to at least 48 hours, bottled water, medicines, food, etc.

The small decisions you make before this afternoon and evening could be crucial if the degree of storms develop that the NWS says are possible.

03/06/2019

It's that time of year again, severe weather will soon be upon us. If you have not signed up to receive automatic notification when the National Weather Service issues warnings, we urge you to do so. Additionally, you can select from a menu of other local notifications that are issued from time to time by City & County officials. Follow the link below, and sign up today. Share with your friends, because sometimes the difference between life and death is simply being made aware!
