Scam Alert!!! Real Estate Agents often get scam calls because our information is all over the internet. But this one could be targeted at ANYONE! Here is what happened today:
I received a call today from a no-caller-id number from someone stating that he was Captain Ronald Collins from the Lucas County Sheriff's Office. When I questioned the no-caller-id, he stated that that was due to the switchboard, and gave me a number to call back -> 419-213-4784 Extension 12.
I tried looking up the number, and it was not listed, so I called it back just to see what would happen. The person answered Lucas County Sheriff's Office. I asked for Ronald Collins at Ext.12 as instructed, and the same person that had called me answered. He went on to say that he had 2 citations in my name for not showing up for a Federal court appearance at 1716 Spielbusch Ave, Toledo OH 43604. I said I knew nothing about this, and he said a certified letter had been sent to my home in November, and that I had signed for it. I told him that was not the case. I was very firm, so he backed off and said I could go to my local police and verify what he told me. I immediately called the Solon OH police department, and they told me it was a scam and that I might want to report it to the Lucas County Sheriff's Office, which I did. They were aware of it, and it has been going on for over 2 years.
Just beware - this was a sophisticated scam. They had all of my personal information, and they were very convincing. If you get a call like this, ask for their name and phone number and tell them you will call back in a few minutes as you are on another call. Then check them out first, and if you call back, don't give them any information or payments!
I hope this post helps someone to avoid getting caught up in a scam like this. There are a lot of them out there right now.
