I work with Lisa DuRant • Florida Real Estate at Berkshire Hathaway. This is a real scam. Please be careful out there and if it sounds or looks suspicious double check and verify.

🚨 RENTAL SCAM ALERT — PLEASE READ & SHARE! 🚨

Unfortunately, this happened AGAIN.

Someone stole the photos from one of my legitimate rental listings, created a fake Facebook post and advertised the home well below market value rent.

They even created and sent a professional looking ChatGPT generated flyer using MY NAME all over it to make it look legitimate when these folks inquired.

The applicants paid a $65 application fee via Cash App and were told the security deposit would only be $250. 😡 Thankfully they only got them for the $65. The applicants did a little detective work and called me before sending any additional money.

🚩 RED FLAGS TO WATCH FOR:

• Rent is suspiciously below market value
• An unusually low security deposit
• Pressure to “act now” or send money quickly
• They won’t meet you or properly show you the property
• They want money before you’ve verified the listing
• The same address appears online at different prices
• The contact information doesn’t match the Realtor or property management company
• They want payment through Zelle, Cash App, wire transfer, gift cards or cryptocurrency
• They ask for personal information before you’ve verified who they are

🏡 BEFORE YOU SEND MONEY:

✅ Google the property address
✅ Compare the listing on multiple websites
✅ Verify the Realtor or property manager independently
✅ Call the agent or brokerage using a phone number YOU find not the number the advertiser gives you
✅ See the property whenever possible
✅ Never let someone rush you into sending money

If the price seems too good to be true, STOP and verify it because it probably is.

And please don’t be embarrassed to ask questions. These scams are becoming incredibly convincing.

If you see a rental listing somewhere and aren’t sure it’s legitimate, CALL ME. I would much rather spend five minutes verifying it for you than see someone lose their hard-earned money.
