If you are active on Instagram or TikTok, you've more than likely seen "The Ick" challenge.
According to Style Caster, "The Ick" is a modern dating term used to describe the feeling you get when the person you're dating does something, says something, or has something about them that makes you cringe. Think of the term "Ick" as being similar to a turn-off!

To sell your home quickly and for top dollar, address these issues to avoid giving buyers "The Ick"!

1. Unpleasant odors
2. Too much clutter
3. Funky or dark paint colors
4. An overgrown yard
5. Popcorn ceilings
6. Pet hair
7. Damp stains on walls and/or ceilings
8. Deferred maintenance
9. Dated light fixtures
10. Dirty windows
11. Deceiving listing photos
12. Dust, dirt, and grime

Follow these 10 tips to prepare your house for a New Year's Eve party that both you and your guests will enjoy:

1. Clean out your coat closet or mudroom to make room for guests to store their coats, bags, scarves, shoes, and other cold-weather gear.

2. Stock your guest bathroom with plenty of toilet paper, clean hand towels, air freshener spray, and your favorite holiday-scented hand soap.

3. Set the mood with a festive jazz playlist!

4. Create a drink station with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options, straws, cocktail napkins, an ice chest or bucket, and plenty of glassware. Keeping the beverage area separate from the kitchen and dining area will help to keep clutter and traffic to a minimum.

5. Run and empty your dishwasher before the party to make room for dirty dishes, silverware, and glasses.

6. Stock up on plastic containers to send your guests home with leftovers.

7. Set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature (between 60 to 70 degrees is typically ideal for a party).

8. Grocery shop and prepare as much food as possible in advance to avoid last-minute cooking stress.

9. Plan a couple of holiday party games to keep your guests entertained throughout the night!

10. Create a cozy atmosphere by lighting a festive holiday candle, turning on your Christmas tree lights, and adding extra pillows and comfy blankets to your living room.

The benefits of homeownership are close to endless, but being a homeowner also comes with responsibilities! Here are 10 things every homeowner should think about doing in the New Year:
1. Plan for emergencies by stocking your first aid kit, making a fire escape plan, and preparing your home for natural disasters and severe weather conditions.

2. Set aside money (even if it's just a small amount) each month to start or continue building a home emergency savings fund.

3. Review and update your home insurance policy.

4. Reduce your energy consumption by replacing your standard light bulbs with energy-efficient ones and making a habit of turning off the lights when you leave a room.

5. Donate items in your home that you no longer want or need to create a clutter-free environment.

6. Perform routine home maintenance to keep your home looking its best and avoid expensive issues down the road.

7. Boost your ROI by making home renovations or doing some DIY home improvements.

8. Upgrade your home security systems/cameras.

9. Review your household budget and look over your current expenses.

10. Build equity faster by making extra mortgage payments.

Going out of town for the holidays? Here are a few things you should do to prepare and secure your home before heading out the door.🎄✨
1. Ask a neighbor or friend to collect your mail, pick up packages that get delivered, and put your garbage cans out on trash day
2. Charge or change the batteries in your security cameras and check to make sure they are running smoothly
3. Turn your thermostat down to conserve energy while you are away
4. Set your indoor and outdoor lights on a timer (to make it look like someone is home while you are away)
5. Before you leave, be sure to lock all exterior doors, windows, and the garage
6. Don’t hide any spare house keys outside
7. Clean out your refrigerator and take out the kitchen trash to avoid coming home to all sorts of smelly, spoiled food
8. Put valuable items in a safe or stash them in a good hiding place
9. Test your fire alarms + carbon monoxide detectors and change batteries if needed
10. Unplug electronics around your home that don’t need power while you’re gone (to save energy and reduce the risk of starting a house fire)

Moving can be stressful at any time of year, but even more so with the craziness of the holiday season.
Here is our survival guide to moving during the holidays: 10 tips to surviving a holiday move and staying sane amidst the chaos!

1. Combine your new address cards with your holiday cards
2. The holiday season is a busy time, so be sure to start packing as soon as possible
3. If you typically host your family's holiday gatherings, ask another family member to take over this year
4. Save room in the moving truck by donating items to a local charity
5. Think ahead as much as possible. If you have a fancy holiday work party to attend or gifts to wrap before your moving date, you'll want to wait to box up your high heels, formal dresses, scissors, and tape.
6. Put on some holiday music to make packing feel a little more holly-jolly!
7. Pre-order your holiday dinner from a local restaurant or make reservations to save time and hassle
8. Throw a packing party by inviting your friends over for some Christmas cocktails, appetizers, and an evening of packing
9. Be sure to set aside time to enjoy the holiday season
10. Give yourself the gift of movers!

Accidents happen when you oftentimes least expect it, and with the holiday season comes a higher risk of house fires and burglaries.
Between the holiday parties, cooking, baking, decorating, and wrapping, mishaps are bound to happen. Thankfully, home insurance covers a majority of the most common holiday accidents.

Here are 8 disasters that are typically covered by a standard home insurance policy:

1. House fires caused by cooking, holiday decorations, candles, a fireplace, or your Christmas tree
2. Indoor and outdoor theft, including stolen packages, gifts, and holiday decor
3. Vandalized holiday decorations
4. Electrical hazards
5. Weather and storm damage
6. Water damage caused by the burst of frozen pipes
7. Accidents involving holiday guests
8. Alcohol related incidents that occur in your home

The holiday season is a busy time of year, and you don’t need any more stress added to your plate! Before the holiday festivities begin, make sure your homeowners insurance is up-to-date and review your policy to be sure you have proper coverage.
