South Bend's lamppost lighting program

Mayor Mueller joined City staff yesterday to install a new solar-powered lamppost in a South Bend resident’s front yard as part of the City’s Lamppost Lighting Program.

The City selected four target areas for 2026 based on income, number of vacant lots and a need for lighting in the neighborhood. Homeowners in the target areas will pay a lower share of the total cost:

- Homeowners within target areas: $50
- Homeowners outside target areas: $250

The application deadline is Friday, June 5. More information about the program and target areas can be found at southbendin.gov/lamppost.

The 2026 Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the nation's largest one-day food drive, takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
